Chekhirkin Suspended Following Anti-Doping Violation

By United World Wrestling Press

CORSIER-SUR-VEVEY (March 1) – United World Wrestling suspended Greco-Roman wrestler Aleksandr CHEKHIRKIN (RUS) following violations of the organization’s anti-doping policy during the 2017 Senior World Championships in Paris.

United World Wrestling issued the test September 25, 2017 and had it processed through a WADA-accredited laboratory in Rome.

Chekhirkin’s test indicated the presence of Triamcinolone acetonide, which is Glucocorticoid under class S9 of WADA’s 2017 Prohibited List and is prohibited in-competition. According to UWW’s records, no Therapeutic Use Exemption was delivered by UWW to justify the presence of Triamcinolone acetonide in the wrestler’s system.

In a statement submitted to the panel, Chekhirkin produced evidence that a documented medical treatment had adversely effected his results. A suspension of four months was imposed and was completed on January 28, 2018.

Chekhirkin’s results obtained at the Senior World Championship (2nd place, 75kg) are hereby disqualified with all resulting consequences, including the forfeiture of his silver medal, his points and prizes.

Below is a list of the new medal standings for the 2017 Senior World Championships in Greco-Roman wrestling at 75kg.

1. Viktor NEMES (SRB)
2. Tomas LORINCZ (HUN)
3. Fatih CENGIZ (TUR)
