Licenses for Athletes in all Wrestling Styles

License is obligatory for all Athletes Cadet, Junior, Senior, Veteran who take part in a competition published in the UWW Calendar, as it insures the Athlete abroad, and enables our Federations to register their wrestlers to UWW competition. This rule applies in all UWW Styles, Olympic, Associated and Beach Wrestling.

In the event of an accident or illness during a trip abroad for a competition published in the UWW Calendar, our athletes holding a valid license of the year are insured by IMSSA Insurance. When the Licensee returns to his home country, IMSSA may intervene in a subsidiary capacity, that means that IMSSA may settle the medical expenses that are not borne by the Licensee's local insurance. So Licensees should have an insurance that covers their medical expenses in their country further to a medical problem which took place abroad. Also, IMSSA does not cover the medical expenses of a Licensee during a competition which takes place in his/her home country. So Licensees should have a local insurance that covers their medical expenses in their country. See full details of the risks insured by IMSSA

A license of the year is valid in all styles and in all age categories.

As UWW Federations are responsible for all athletes of their country, licenses can be purchased by our Federations only, and not by individuals. Licenses are not sold on site, so UWW Federations should buy their Athlete's license prior to the competition.

Licenses are sold via our Athena platform, dedicated towards athlete's management

Athletes of U15 age category (formerly Schoolboys & Schoolgirls) are insured by UWW for free on the competitions registered in the UWW Calendar, and no license has to be purchased for them. The organiser must send a list of participants to UWW at the latest 3 days before the competition.

Purchase of the 2020 license by our Federations

Our Federations received the access to their official email address and to Athena from our IT Team. Once on Athena, the Federation has to log into its account : enter its username (which is the official UWW email address of the Federation) and password.

In case of a lost password, the Federation should enter its username, and click on "Lost password" The procedure will be sent immediately to the Federation's official email address.

For the purchase of a new license (athlete who never had one in the past) there are three tasks to be completed : upload a valid passport copy (no ID card is accepted), a photo and the following documents (signed by a Doctor and by the Athlete)

UWW will then validate these documents within a few days. Here is our tutorial if necessary.

For the renewal of a license (athete who already had one in the past),  please upload the 2020 UWW Annual medical certificate and Wrestler's Declaration. Our tutorial is here.

When documents are validated by UWW, Federation can buy the license, and choose, at the end of the process, 2 forms of payment  :
- Credit card (+ 3% of bank expense). In this case, license will be confirmed by UWW within 7 days.
- Bank transfer : UWW will send an invoice to the Federation, and upon receipt of the payment, the license will be confirmed by UWW within 7 days.

In both cases, when the purchase is completed, the Federation will receive a confirmation order on its official email address.

Please be aware that the validation of licenses cannot be done on the day of the purchase, so please anticipate !

Personal license cards of the Atheletes & presentation of the card at competitions

UWW implemented a new personal licence card with a QR code at the back, reloadable from one year to another. Wrestlers who had their licence purchased by their Federation in 2019 have received their personal license card, sent by UWW to their Federation a few weeks later. When his Federation buys his 2020 license and UWW confirms it in Athena, the validity will  be visible immediately on the QR code of the card. Associated Style license' cards will be sent directly to our Istanbul Office. Our athletes must keep their card during their entire sporting life, as it is reusable from a year to another.

Each athlete has to present his card at the weigh-in to our Referee or Delegate and wrestlers without a card will not be eligible to take part in the competition. The list of licensees of each country (printable via Athena by the Federation)  also contains a QR code, and is accepted as valid proof for the 2020 license.

More Information concerning IMSSA Insurance is mentioned at the back of each card : Insurer details, website, user name and password for an online accident claim, and on our website, under Governance / License / Insurance.
